However, if you notice oil only on the areas where the paper was on the forehead and nose then you likely have combination skin.

Essentially skincare consists of seven to ten steps.
However, not all of them are needed for your skin concern and type.

The order of applying skincare products is quintessential for them to work properly.
The skin needs to absorb these products so they need to be layered one after another from thinner to a thicker consistency.
You should also use those products first that your skin needs to absorb such as antioxidants and end it with those that should lock the skin and stay on top of it such as humectants.
The basic skincare products include:
A cleanser is generally the first step in your routine either it is day or night.
Cleansers are either oil-based or water-based.
They are available in the form of gels, creams, lotions, cleansing balms.
Ideally, this step is divided into two.
The first step is to use an oil-based cleanser that removes any dirt, also acts as a makeup remover and unclogs pores.
The next step is the water-based cleanser that washes away any remaining dirt and makeup and balances the pH of your skin.

The second (or third step) is the toner that preps your skin.

Skin Care Routine for Your Skin Type
You may use all or some of the skincare steps according to your skin needs.
Hence, skincare is not one size fits all.
Your skin needs will differ according to your skin type and you will have to do some trial and error and experimentation to find out what really works for you.
Dy skin indicates a damaged moisture barrier from where moisture escape while irritants enter.
Therefore, you will require products that maintain your skin hydration and plump it.
In the first step, use a cleansing lotion rather than a gel or balm.
Without any foam or lather, this mild lotion will not dry out your skin after cleansing.
Next, you can follow with atoner as usual but add an antioxidant and hydrating serum.
This stops any collagen breakdown (like Vitamin e or C serum) but serums like Hyaluronic Acid will also give you extra hydration.
At night you can add Retinol serums to your routine.
For both day and night use a hydrating moisturizer containing jojoba oil, rosehip seed oil, phospholipids etc.
Choose cream moisturizers that are thick enough to reduce any dryness or flakiness of the skin.
Add sunscreen and eye cream as per the usual requirement.

Your toner should be lightweight and witch hazel is a good ingredient for that.
Retinol and AHA/BHA serums will remain in your routine in combo skin as well.

For moisturizer, you will need a light one for the dryness on your cheeks.
You cannot go completely oil-free but your moisturizer should be hydrating enough.
Follow it with a zinc oxide sunscreen.

If you have normal skin you can experiment with different active ingredients.
Still, it is better to use a light cleanser that is sulfate-free.
While choosing toners be wary of alcohols like ethanol and isopropyl alcohol.
